Anima can have several meanings, such as soul, breath and life – but yeah, I agree that breath is probably right in this context. I haven’t, however, seen the sanskrit for this proverb. And my sanskrit knowledge is not much to speak of. Thanks again, though

Very profound proverb, however, if you look at the words, the Hindu’s got it in the wrong sequence, at least, when you translate it into English that is. In Sanskrit, I guess, it’s probably correct. Nevertheless, it’s still interesting to note that the word ‘animal’ comes from the Latin word ‘anima’, which means “breath”. Therefore, the meaning of the word ‘animal’ is “being that breathes”. So, I’d say, in English, it are the plants that dream, and the animals that breathe.
